C. Michael Barnette

C. Michael Barnette has four decades of experience in the practice of law in the State of Florida. Mr. Barnette was admitted to the Florida Bar on November 6, 1978. Mr. Barnette is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Florida, all District Courts of Appeal, Circuit Courts and County Courts. Mr. Barnette is also admitted to practice in federal court and in the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

Mr. Barnette graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree on June 10, 1978, from the University of Florida, College of Law. Mr. Barnette was employed in a small general civil practice firm in Panama City, Florida, for several years before moving to Volusia County, Florida. Mr. Barnette was an Assistant Attorney General in the State of Florida, Department of Legal Affairs. During Mr. Barnette's tenure with the Attorney General's Office, Mr. Barnette handled hundreds of criminal appeals in State and Federal Courts. Representation included death penalty cases in the Supreme Court of Florida, appeals from criminal convictions in Circuit Court and extraordinary writ cases such as certiorari, habeas corpus, and prohibition.

After his employment as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Florida, Mr. Barnette opened his own law practice in Volusia County, Florida, in December, 1982. Mr. Barnette has practiced in Daytona Beach as a solo practitioner, partner with another attorney and in association with another attorney since that time. Mr. Barnette's practice has consisted of appellate practice, criminal defense, family and juvenile law since that time. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Barnette graduated from the University of Florida, College of Arts and Sciences, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree on June 9, 1973. He was employed as a social worker with the State of Florida for one year and as a parole officer for the State of Florida for two years before attending law school. Mr. Barnette was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and grew up in Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. Barnette has served on Florida Bar committees including two terms as a member and chairman of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee and has served on the Unlicensed Practice of Law Committee of the Florida Bar.
